Basic Vegan Mayo

Posted on Apr 23, 2012 by in Recipes | 4 comments

I hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend! It’s Monday again, which means it’s time for a new recipe. As I was testing some of my recipes last week, I realized that a lot of them call for vegan mayo. I always make my own mayo rather than using the store-bought stuff – partially because of all the oil in the store-bought varieties and partially because of cost (it’s around $9 at my local store). I also noticed that I usually mention you can make your own, but that I hadn’t shared my personal recipe for making (what I think) is spot-on vegan mayo.

Vegan Mayo Ingredients

This version is very cheap (around $2.50 for 12 oz) and it is very easy. All you  have to do is take the ingredients, pop them in the blender, and blend until smooth. It couldn’t be any easier. From now on when I have mayo as an ingredient in my recipes I’ll provide a link back to this page so you don’t need to worry about bookmarking it. I have a feeling, however, that once you see how easy it is to make your own vegan mayo you’ll find yourself making it all of the time!

Basic Vegan Mayo

  • 1 12oz package of Silken Tofu
  • 1 tbsp Yellow Mustard
  • 2 tsp White Vinegar
  • Juice of 1 Lemon
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • Dash of Cayenne Pepper

  1. Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Taste and add additional salt and/or vinegar to suit your taste. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
