Holiday Fun: My Favorite Things

Posted on Dec 19, 2012 by in All Posts, Giveaways and Contests | 16 comments

This post is mostly inspired by my love of The Sound of Music, though I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t partially inspired by Oprah as well! This time of year always gets me thinking about my favorite things – the things that I love and wouldn’t want to do without. They aren’t all big things and not all of them can be bought. Some of them are a little on the strange side and others still I bet most people would agree with me on.

These are a few of my favorite things:

Peppermint – My love of peppermint is well documented. I make no apologies for my near obsession. It is what it is, and what it is is delicious in more ways than I can explain in words. Not only do I love to eat peppermint flavored things, I adore the smell alone as well.

Butt Massages – If you’ve never had one, you must put this at the top of your to-do list for 2013. I always politely ask the massage therapist working on me if she is comfortable doing one – and most of them have said that it’s not a true full-body massage unless you include it. So, don’t be shy, ask for one. You will not regret it.

Crazy Socks – Even though I prefer to be barefoot, when I do wear socks, I like for them to be outrageous. I have socks for every holiday and I take pride in their craziness.

Disco Music – Have you ever listened to Thelma Houston’s “Don’t Leave Me This Way”? Do it now. I love disco music so hard – if I would’ve been around for Studio 54 you can guarantee I would’ve lived in that club. There is no way you could ever be sad listening to disco – it’s not possible, I’ve tried.

Hiking/Camping – Some of my favorite memories involve being outside either hiking, trail running, or camping with my family. I absolutely love being outside in the summer and I’m even starting to like being outside in the winter – snowshoeing has definitely helped that out a bit!

Iced Green Tea Lattes – Whether from Starbucks or homemade, I love iced green tea lattes – even in the winter. Something about the slightly sweet drink makes me feel better no matter what kind of mood I’m in. I also love having it as a post-workout treat 🙂

Yoga & Meditation – I’ve gained so much insight about myself over the past year simply through doing yoga and mediation on a regular basis. Since committing to regular yoga practice I have found myself to be a much calmer and much more compassionate person. Needless to say, I’m glad that I decided to give it a go.

Old Books – Nothing makes me happier than picking up an old book and flipping through the pages. I love the smell and the feel of an old book, not to mention the overall look of them. From their intricate bindings to the heavy, weathered paper, I find cracking open an old book to be an experience, which is something I don’t get from a new book or my iPad.

Indian Food – Ah, Indian food. How I love thee, let me count the ways. Set me in front of an Indian buffet and it’s like sitting a kid in front of “iCarly” (if you don’t have kids, it’s basically a free babysitter). Samosas, chana dal, roti, aloo gobi, I could go on and on, but I’ll save you the torture 🙂
