Vegan Maple Nut Smoothie

When I was growing up my parents were always working on a project. Whether it was building furniture or renovating a bathroom, they always had something in the works. As such, we made A LOT of trips to the home improvement store (here in Minnesota it’s Menards).

Now, I have to admit, I was not a fan of these stores – nothing fun to look at or play with and the trips seemed never-ending. However, one thing I looked forward to was check-out, because right next to the register were the chocolate covered peanuts and Maple Nut Goodies. For the uninitiated, Maple Nut Goodies are this little nugget of deliciousness: a peanut, covered in soft toffee, covered in a maple syrup candy coating! The crunch of the candy coating followed by the sweet creaminess of the toffee finished off with a salty peanut was pure heaven.

Vegan Maple Nut Smoothie

This smoothie is my healthier, vegan version of Maple Nut Goodies. The almond butter gives it the salty, nutty flavor of the original and the maple syrup gives it its namesake. The cinnamon and nutmeg reflect the flavors on the toffee and it all comes together with the mild sweetness of banana.

This may be one of the best desserts I’ve ever made, and I think I may end up having it for breakfast, too 🙂

What is/was your favorite old-time candy?

  • I know your pain regarding Menards! As a kid, I thought it was the most boring store ever, and I spent plenty of time there waiting in the aisles for my parents to finish their shopping. The only time of year I enjoyed that store was at Christmas, because they had a sizable tree and decoration area.

I’m unfamiliar with Maple Nut Goodies, but I remember their package. Your smoothie sounds delicious and like it would also be good in the fall with warming spices like cinnamon and nutmeg.

    • Yes! It’s been so cool here that it’s felt like fall so I’ve been craving these warm flavors!

  • This reminds me of how my parents would drag us round museums when my brothers and I were little and uninterested with the promise of ice cream after!
This smoothie looks so good, indulgent but still wholesome 🙂

    • It’s funny the things that stick with us – it’s weird that I can still remember those trips so vividly!
