Sunday Funday: Last-Minute Thanksgiving Appetizers

Posted on Nov 24, 2013 by in Sunday Funday | 1 comment

I have to be honest about something: even when I ate a big ‘traditional’ Thanksgiving meal, I was more interested in the pre-meal snacks than I was the actual dinner. That is still the case, and appetizers remain my favorite part of Thanksgiving. What’s better than grazing on apps while sipping a glass of wine with family?

Even though we’re putting up Christmas decorations today, I’m still very much looking forward to Thanksgiving. I love spending time with my fam without having to worry about work or clients, and of course, the FOOD. If you still need some ideas for appetizers for the big day, which honestly was the toughest part of my menu planning this year, here are some quick and easy recipes you can try out for the holidays.

Not all appetizers have to be savory, and this Apple Cinnamon Puppy Chow proves it! I may cut back on the sugar a bit, but I love the concept and would totally dig into this seasonal treat before dinner! I also love that it takes a bit of a lighter approach that the normal puppy chow recipes.

One thing I really love about appetizers is that you can serve something simple such as fries, fresh veggies, or crackers and then amp up the flavor and fancy-ness with sauces and dips. I think this Cranberry Balsamic Ketchup would be a delightful condiment to serve with anything really. The cranberry makes it seasonal and really boosts the flavor of any otherwise common dip.

Um, I don’t really think this one needs any explanation as to why you should serve it. A Vegan Cheese Ball? Yes, please!

I’m not really a donut fan, but that’s generally because they are cloyingly sweet. These Savory Baked Herbed Donuts on the other hand – that’s something I can get behind. I love the idea of making something that’s traditionally sweet into a vehicle for savory flavors. Definitely something unique and tasty you could serve.

As I said before, crackers are a fantastic thing to serve as an appetizer because you can pair it with a variety of condiments. These Coastal Crackers are both delicious-looking and festive! They are made in a similar method to biscotti and are something you can start several days in advance.

My holiday gift guide continues this week and I have some tasty recipes for you as well!
