Tofu Xpress Review
File this under ‘sh*t vegans say': “Hot damn! My tofu press is here!”
That was my exact reaction when my Tofu Xpress finally arrived last week! This thing is a dream. You can finally put the books, towels, and random kitchen appliances away – this tofu press will get all of the moisture you want out of your tofu with minimal effort and cleanup.
I used this on the recipe I posted last night for my Spicy Chinese Tofu and it worked perfectly in no time! I placed my brick of extra firm tofu (which still has tons of moisture in it) in the bottom portion of the press and then used the spring-loaded top to press the tofu down. It easily locks into place by just turning it underneath plastic notches on the base and then you just place it in the fridge.
After about 1 1/2 hours I took the press out of the fridge and look how much water it removed from the tofu!
Amazing right? Then all I had to do was dump the water into the sink and then unlock the lid – it’s that simple! The Tofu Xpress costs $39.95, but it is well worth it. This will definitely make me want to cook with tofu more often since it is so much less hassle than the traditional book and plate method. Also, you could do this the night before since you can leave it in the fridge so it’s even less hassle when dinner time rolls around.
They also have a light tension version – it costs a bit more but you can use it to press medium or soft tofu. With both versions you can press homemade cheeses or anything else you need to get moisture out of! I definitely recommend this product – you can purchase it online from their store here.
Do you have a Tofu Xpress? If not, what method do you use to press your tofu?
